What dates of the month do people typically receive social security payments?

Social Security benefits are paid each month. Generally, the day on which you receive your benefit depends on the birth date of the person on whose work record you receive benefits. For example, if you receive benefits as a retired or disabled worker, your benefit will be determined by your birth date. If you receive benefits as a spouse, your benefit payment date will be determined by your spouse’s birth date.
Date of birth Benefits paid each month on
1st - 10th Second Wednesday
11th - 20th Third Wednesday
21st - 31st Fourth Wednesday

The third for checks. Some people get direct deposit on the 1st. Stay away from Krogers in depressed parts of town that have Western Union during these times..... just an FYI.

http://www.ssa.gov/pubs/10153.html | Ding ding ding! With the following provisos:
Anyone over the present age of 70 or so receives their benefits on the third of the following month.
If a beneficiary has direct deposit, more often than not, the payments go into the account a couple days before then. I advise claimants to check their bank statements the first two or three months to see if that is in fact the case. If they're on a budget, planning a trip, or making a big purchase that day or two can make a difference.
All regularly scheduled monthly benefits are paid the following month. So benefits for May would be paid in June (as shown above), June's benefits in july and so on. And a person must have been alive for the whole month to be paid; it does not matter if they died on the 1st, the 10th, or the 28th - we do not pay a partial month's benefit for the month of death to a deceased person's surviving spouse.
