Actually that is the good thing. that could only be one piece of bamboo. bamboo is a grass hence grows wee, like grass, it can grow quickly. it can also grow tall. did you see Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon? the scene with them fighting in the trees is actually bamboo. some species according to the article, can go to 60 meteres, that is over 1/2 a football field in height.

Because it is sooo much easier to relate to 1/5th a football field instead of 60 meters.
