This summer I've read Micheal Crichton's Sphere, Great Train Robbery, Disclosure, Andromeda Strain. And Jonathan Kellerman's Gone. Now I'm reading James Lee Burke's Bitteroot.
They've all been really good. But then, a summer weekend afternoon in the hammock with a book just makes it that much better Mr. Green

Finished The Kite Runner today... wonderfully written

After about two months, I'm still working on What's the Matter with Kansas?... interesting but some it the ideas stretch a bit even for this left-leaner (sheesh, apparently I'm more moderate people might think)

So far so good, it took a few pages to get used to the style and verbage. But, I'm all set now.

I just finished reading

It was my first James Patterson novel. Quick, easy entertaining reading.

I struggled through the first Mayfair book, haven't read the second yet. You should try The Mummy. Good book. The Jesus book was crap.

I am currently reading Smashed by Koren Zailckas, and The Scar by China Mieville.

Really good books I finished sort of recently:
Kindred - Octavia Butler
The Giver - Lois Lowry
Parable of the Sower - Octavia Butler
Death Comes for the Archbishop - Willa Cather
No Country for Old Men - Cormac McCarthy

Plus some more overt science fiction/fantasy for those who are interested in that sort of stuff.

How do you like Smashed? I considered reading it when it first came out in the bookstore where I worked, but kinda forgot about it. Have you read Blood Meridian by McCarthy? That's sitting on my shelf now, probably what I'll read next.

If you liked The Giver, you might want to read the companion books: Gathering Blue and The Messenger.

Right now I'm taking a break from work related reading and am catching up on the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency books by Alexander McCall Smith. I bought the last 3 when they came out, but am just now getting around to reading them.

I recently finished The Rabbit Factory by Marshall Karp. Pretty good mystery/thriller.

I've only read the prologue so far, so I'm not sure.
I want to read Blood Meridian. I've wanted to read it for years but somehow have not reserved it at the library.

LC: I have the follow up books on my reading list.

I need to finish up the Lemony Snicket books someday, too.

"Do it yourself ideas for your home and garden" (The magazine subtitle is "How to paint "almost" anything" - I got it because I'm getting ready to paint a table and I'm not exactly sure how to go about doing it.

I'm also reading a book about "social IQ's" for children. I'm not exactly sure what the title is but it helps you help your children in social situations before they are thrown into an akward place.
