Did you make a special trip to the Dr. to get it done or do it all (delivery + surgery) at the same time?

I'm fixed....No more kids for me.

If I want more, there are tons of orphans who pray for parents every night.

Well, there is a possibility I'll be having a c-section this time around (didn't the last time) so I'd like to get it all done at one time, too. Did you have to go to a miserable class about it? I can't believe all the regulations the military has:
- if you are pregnant you have to take this maternity class before you are able to even think about seeing a doctor.
- if you are over the age of 35 you MUST see a genetics counselor (no matter what your belief system is)
- if you are going to have your tubes tied you must take this class or the doctor will not even consider the surgery when it is that time.

The suck part is that I always have to find a sitter for my son and it takes me over an hour (one way) to get to the hospital under normal driving hours (don't even get me started on the rush hour thing!).

The only classes I took were the Birthing Classes I took with my first child. They covered c-sections then and I was glad to have seen something on them. I knew exactly what would happen to me when they had to do an emergency c-section on my with my first child after 27 hours of labor.

#2, #3...piece of cake. Had no choice and scheduled c-sections.

No counseling for the tubal. I guess some OB/Gyn's are required to do so so they CTA's and make sure you really want to do something permenant. It is a big deal. Now looking at it, I cannot have any other children. What if I remarried and he wanted them? That would be a big issue. I don't want more children, but it's still a big deal.

Yeah, I can see where it could be a big issue with someone that isn't quite as old but for heaven's sake I'm almost 40 years old. I'm too old to be having THIS kid...let alone another one! Very Happy

Robin's OB wanted Robin to have the surgery but our insurance at the time was from a Roman Catholic company who would not pay for voluntary sterilization. Due to the health issues of the twins and Robin's major health problems during the pregnancy her doc really recommended it.

After I got my insurance with the PD, one of the first things I did was get the surgery.

I know she had to come with me and had to agree to the "procedure

on the genetic counseling thing. Our docs knew we were fiercely against abortion or any of the other synonyms they like to use. We were told medical ethics must give all options available.

due to diagnosising Abby early on with problems, we were offerred the option to terminate her if we wished. I still chill thinking about that offer yet only know it was a medical option.
