Posted: 05/14/05 - 20:39 Post subject: So, about irregular heartbeats...
any of you experience this?
any other symptoms like discomfort...lightheadedness...headache that go along with it???
Curious ... why you ask?, because after my run today (Jack took me outside today [sound like her frickin dog! I am ] ...it was way windy and cold and my very first time off the treadmill and I ran too freakin fast, only made it 3/4 mile before I had to walk ...anyway I ran some more, walked some more, ran some more, walked some more...to the tune of about 4 miles total) I felt pretty good when I got done, then awhile after I got home, I noticed a fluttering kinda thingy...but I don't have any other pain/discomfort...or anything...ate dinner no problemo
Kinda feels like it did when I had anxiety, but I'm not really anxious about anything...except maybe the fact that my husband doesn't have a job, we have no income, and this race is coming up and I've been ill and performing really really poorly in my running
Other than that, life is grand
I enjoyed my run today...I just took 800mg Ibuprophen...my shins/feet hurt!
Well, anyhow, just looking for some thoughts.... Thx

I had this happen during one of my c-sections and set off all sorts of monitors. My regular physician thinks it was due to the stress of the surgery. However, when I had my son...there were all sorts of people in there to monitor me.
I think you should get it checked out if it happens again. Could it be caffeine...plus your adreneline kicking it up as well?

I have had the fluttering thing sometimes too. Not necessarily while running though.

This is still happening now... occasionally... not when I ran.
Seeing that darn ticker thingy in my post didn't help anything either!
and Nole...I had the same thing with my c/sections too. They called that one Bradycardia, slow heartbeat...they kinda freak out when that happens don't they?! So did I!

it's odd. i never have it on exertion but strictly from diet; sugar does it to me every time. i've had ultra-sounds, years ago, and it was reassuring to know they could see no abnormalities...if it keeps up with any regularity, i'd see a cardiologist to be be sure.

I'm going on RR's advice. See a physician!!! You don't want to mess with this and have more trouble later on. I believe that heart attacks are the leading causes of death in women. I could be wrong, but I think I've heard that somewhere.

I think the doc told me a while back that I had some tachycardia?....is that when your heart has some funny electrical activity?......anyway.....he thought maybe I was taking too much sudaphed....and I have borderline high blood pressure so he put me on an ace inhibitor?.......

I had these often in Charlotte, scared the hell out of me every time. Told my doc, she said that it was nothing to worry about. I don't believe it's happened once since the move, so I don't know what the deal was. I suppose it is possible it was stress related?
But yes, I agree that you should get an appt asap.

I just ran 2 miles on the treadmill, walked 1 and I'm fine...no funkyness. I feel really good too.
I think it was a combo of running outside in the wind and it was COLD wind, nerves and being tired...and prolly diet related too...I had only eaten a granola bar and an apple all day when I ran at 12:30, didn't get home from running till after 2pm. Not much nourishment for any body, especially mine!
I got 10 hrs sleep last night and I really feel good!
If it happens again, I'll be on the honker to make an appt.
BTW...Jack was there watching me run incase I needed 911
(She appreciates me and doesn't want me to drop dead on her!)

I get flutters too, that I thought were heart related but they never saw anything on the heart monitor. I'm more inclined now to think that they were esophogeal in nature. They certainly take you breath away though and get worse when you worry about it.

JUJR, I just went through this. for over a week, actually.
I went to the dr who sent me to a cardiologist, EKG showed nothing so they put a halter monitor on me (annoying) and it recorded that I was having "premature atrial contractions" which in layman's terms means: no big deal. Doc thought they were stressed induced and I after about 7 days, I didn't feel them anymore. He did say a beta blocker could help them to go away if they persisted, but they didn't. So, no biggie here, no mediations, no repercutions (just so you don't stress about it, becuase I do think they are stress induced, and as dumb as it sounds I think just worrying about them makes them worse...don't worry...)
Meanwhile, to be sure you have what I did, please get it checked.
