It looks interesting, from the cinemaphotography aspect, as well as the subject matter. How rare is a female serial killer?

If anyone has seen it, let me know your opinion. We're driving up to see it Thursday or Friday. Interestingly enough (or not) Charlize Theron is a former (through marriage) cousin of mine. She lived in a small town outside of Johannesburg. I believe that she went by the name of Charleen then. I could be wrong; it was some time ago.

I'd love to see this film. Someone give me good reviews, please?

all I know is what I've read, and seen on TV, which is that she turns in an amazing performance.

Thanks, coach. That's what I have read as well. With the environment in which she was raised, she should have plenty of material to use.

She won the Best Actress Oscar and that Roger Ebert speaks highly of this movie:

There have been only about 100 documented female serial killers since 1900. Male serial killers crimes are mostly sexual in nature, but female ones are not (unless motivated by revenge/rage against a former lover, spouse, etc). Female motives are more diverse and often so subtle they evade capture much more successfully (I suspect there are more of them that have not yet been caught). When a female serial killer does attack a person unknown to her, it will almost always be a young child or an elderly individual (easily dominated people) v. males who "hunt" more of a challenge.

I have not yet seen this movie but have heard so much about it (all positive) it's a must see when I get the time.

It was really disturbing. Parts of the movie are uncomfortable to watch because you know what's going to happen and it's the worst possible scenerio. The few moments that were funny, and there are a few, it's as if the whole audience took a deep breath and laughed at once.

I had the feeling when I left the movie that Aileen's lover, Selby, was almost as guilty her. Selby's character didn't seem to have a conscience. On the other hand, Aileen is portrayed as knowing what she's doing. It's very chilling.

The performances are outstanding. It's really a glimpse into a derranged mind.

I need help here. Once I get past my second cousins, I get into trouble trying to figure out how I'm related to my other cousins. But for the life of me, I don't understand "cousin by marriage." Could you please explain it?

She's my ex-husband's cousin. Whatever that means. I only met her once for about 5 seconds, but am intrigued by her career. This role, in particular.

I don't know if I want to see the movie. Just seeing her in makeup scares me! (I believe the makeup artist won an Oscar, no?)

I don't know about your family but in mine, I don't consider my wife's cousin to be any relation to me. I had a hard enough time accepting her sister's husband as my brother-in-law. But at least I understand what you meant. Thanks for clearing that up!

It is an incredible movie. If you have ever had the misfortune to study Wournos you would be amazed at what a fantastic job Theron did. It was incredible.

It's definitely not a movie you enjoy, but it is a good movie.

In real life, her girlfriends name is Lee, and she's nothing like the character in the movie. That's not saying she wasn't a main influence, but she wasn't this tiny little waif who was unsure of herself...
