Posted: 09/22/03 - 14:59 Post subject: So I went to a concert this weekend...
50,000 people at this venue. It was over 100 degrees outside, too. It was put on my favorite local radio station and sold out in 6 days. Tickets were on ebay for $600. My best friend got us in for free and we even got shade during the hot part of the day as part of the deal.
It was all 80's bands! Here was the lineup that I saw:
-General Public
-Dashboard Confessional (SHELFIE!!!)
-Echo & the Bunnymen
-Violent Femmes
-Psychedelic Furs
-Hot Hot Heat
-Fountains of Wayne
-Duran Duran I finally 'get' the Simon Lebon thing... they are amazing live.
The BEST part was the lead singer of the Psychedelic Furs tripped on stage and totally ate it. He looked so embarrassed but finished his song. At the end he said, "So, I'm a suave b*stard, right?" It was hysterical!
I never go to concerts. Have you ever seen something funny like that happen?

They did have a few new bands mixed in. Maybe to appeal to a bigger group of people? Their usual events are all new bands. This was a new thing.
They rocked! I hadn't realized they were playing... it was like deja vu when I saw them on the program!
Bow-Wow-Wow was there too. I Want Candy.

Fountains of Wayne are a new act. True story: I grew up in Wayne, NJ, where there's this place Fountains of Wayne that sells super tacky lawn ornaments and stuff. The band members grew up in a neighboring town and they all worked there, hence the band name. That store has a hellacool Christmas animated walk-through display on the second floor every year, though, which compensates for their tackiness the remaining 10-11 months of the year.

I noticed on a re-run of a Soprano's episode, Tony went to a place called Fountains of Wayne for a lawn ornament. Do you think its the same place?

HEY! I know the old ones from the new ones. I am musically challenged, but not that bad!
That's a cool bit of trivia, elkid!

I'd pay to see those in bold.
I saw Stevie Nick at the Mann Music Center in Fairmont park - an outddor venue - anyway...during the song " Landslide" she started to cry - the buzz in the festival seats where I was sitting (laying) was that she was sad at memories of herself with linsday buckinham<?> it turned out that during one of her multiple custome changes...she broke her foot

That's too funny! Well, that sucks, but it's funny that the audience assumed that.
You can never tell what's really going on up there!

I already told this story but when the Smashing Pumpkins played up at First Ave in Minneapolis, Billy Corgan kept getting smacked with shoes from the crowd. he stopped the song and said something like 'If any of you motherf-ers throw one more f-in shoe at me, we're F-in LEAVING'.
The break into the song again.
3 seconds later a chuck taylor comes flying in and smacks him on the forehead.
He walks off the stage and doesn't come back.
ALSO, soon after Kurt Cobain died, Courtney Love was playing a show in Portland when someone from the crowd screamed 'YOU KILLED KURT!!!'. She walked off stage and didn't come back.

I was at a Dead show where Jerry forgot the lyrics to "Truckin'" and flubbed the second verse.
Also a Van HAlen show with David Lee Roth where he was drinking from a bottle of JD. I forget the song, but somewhere he stopped singing, took a big swig, and said "Sh$t! Iforgot the f'ing words"
How were the Femmes, SC? I love them!!
