which I never do, and it's really more background noise than anything, and tonite he is dealing w/ alcoholic parents. Crazy alcoholic, both of them. They drive drunk wtih their kids, rip the ventilator out of their little boy's throat when tripping over ventilator stuff while drunk, the husband has beaten/drug his wife through the house, the wife has wrecked the car with the kids in it--it's just mind boggling what everyone has to endure due to this terrible thing... Now the wife is getting ready to go to rehab, but the husband isn't. I hope the mom gets clean.
I've done my share of providing therapy fodder for my kids, but damn.
Scary stuff.

Springer was mayor of Cincinnati.
The good doctor is an opportunist like no one else.

The good doctor is an opportunist like no one else. | Wasn't he (Jerry, not Phil) thinking of running for gov or Senator a couple years ago? Couldn't've done (much) worse than some of the illustrious ones of recent memory (on both sides of the aisle - plenty to go around).

I don't like the man, never have, and have never watched his show all the way through.
The other night, thumbing through the channels, I saw the episode with the child abuse and I am amazed that he only threatened to call services on them.
That episode made me physically ill.

I know all talk shows exploit for ratings. I know. Say what you will but I think Oprah tries to really have a purpose for her shows and expose what she will so people will seek help/see warning signs/etc. She's the only one I've seen that seems to feel any sense of responsibility for her role however. When Dr. Phil first started out on Oprah he did some pretty good things, and it was funny, the wacky Texan doctor tamed by the confines of the Oprah show. His anecdotes in doses with Oprah sort of levelling him with weird looks and commercial breaks. Then the first season of his show came and there was no Oprah. And he could just rattle on about socks on a rooster and such and had stay at home mom vs. working mom debates in between fat families and moms who just can't bring themselves to clean the bathroom. And he....lost me.

He gives me the heebie jeebies. I dont' think it's because he's Texan.
I think Jerry Springer is actually smarter.
