I just got off the phone with technical support. The card isn't compatible with my OS.
You'd figure they'd say this somewhere in the documentation, wouldn't you?
I think I can get my wife to upgrade the OS at her work tomorrow, but what a waste of time today.

that's in case you were being sarcastic
Windows 95 on the laptop. It's a Netgear 2.4GHz card.

OK so 95 isn't all that much farther along than 3.1,....
My PC has XP though, so :p

Doodette, you're gettin' a Dell!!!
I love mine.
Sorry to hear about the compatability issues. You know, we broke the plastic casing on my little netgear card that hangs off the laptop. It's my fault for not removing it when the laptop is in transit, but also the girlie's for tossing my laptop carrier around. We had a nice long talk about how we handle mom's items. Forget the card, it's replaceable. However, my whole academic life is on this laptop.
Good news, it (or rather they, the network & laptop) still works.

Just outaa curiosity... I am a computer geek afterall. a 2.4Ghz card on a Win 95 laptop doesnt sound too promising to me. Your netgear wireless should work on XP though. Is it a PCMCIA card or??.
Its usually suggested that you first configure your network thru a LAN connection and then configure the wireless. Another thing is that if you have WEP enabled on the router, you need to enter a code on your laptop as the data btween the router and the laptop is encrypted and will make sense only if your laptop had the code.
Also if you have a 802.11 g netwrk it wont work with a 802.11b card the other way will most likely work because 'g' ntwk is the latest and most cards have backwards compatibility.
PM me with some more info if you want more help...

My oldest told me yesterday that she wants a laptop. As she gets older, the stuff she wants costs more money
