Dawson PA, once an important town in the coal industry, but now practically a ghost town, with beautiful old victorian homes, and a small group of citizens determined to preserve the town and its history, sponsored a 5k as part of their Community Days Weekend. Great family race atmosphere with food booths, and games, and a flea market. The course was mostly on the Yough River Trail, which is a nice flat trail along the scenic Youghiogheny River. One hill down as we descended to the trail and back up the hill on the way back. It was already warm and humid at the 9:00am start, so it was a little tougher than I expected. There were about 50 runners, but most were well-seasoned, so no trophies for me, but I did set a new PR of 25:16.

running in a kilt provides cooling breezes but offers little in the way of ummmm, shall we say, support. It also causes the women's times to be much slower as they all want to run behind me in the hopes of a strong breeze lifting the kilt.
