learning. there wasn't an adult specific power skating, it's ages 10 and up i think... "all adults are welcome to register in power skating".
so yeah. should be good.

hey gang,
well i'm back and all was well.
walking into the arena was a bit of a shocker - i was EASILY the oldest* person that wasn't a parent there.
when i checked in at the registration table i scanned the list of names in my group, and ages - 6,7,9 etc.. NONE above 10 lol. i'm thinking "wow, so much for a quasi-adult class", and was feeling a bit uncomfortable.
anyway, waiting to get on the ice - one of the older dad strikes up conversation and says "so, are you the trainer?" and i said "no sir, i'm hear to learn" and he chuckled and i was like "no really, i'm in the class".
so he kinda looked stunned for a second and said "well good for you, i went back to high school when i was older, so good on you. you'll have fun" (and i'm like dude, it's not like i haven't skated before). one of the other moms said it was cool too.
my instructor was my age, and we had a private chuckle over my obvious age gap.
i learnt lots though, only fell twice, once doing laps backwards (i was like - no effin way.. a lap... backwards?) and then once dodging one of the more youthful participants.
i practiced my 'u-turns' which are quick turns around pylons and was shown how to bend my knees and make sure my inside foot was going first, and to turn my shoulders...
the cross-cuts were easy, until we had to use our left leg - which is about the time i realized i must only ever cross over with my right leg, because i damn near fell over thinking about what i had to do.
the only hard part was making sure i paced myself to not plow the kids - they really liked to rush through, but with my stride there was no way they were outskating me. so going slow helped me be more technical.
anyway, it was good. we played british bulldog at the end, and the kids took great joy crashing into the boards (sans hockey equipment), and i'm always nervous because i can skate fast but my stopping isn't up to par.
i look forward to next week.
oh, and the old man i talked to at the start was glad to hear that i had a good time. i think i'm his new best friend. that and the 4 y/o girl that kept talking to me in the lobby.

Yes folks, it's True!
Our own Blue is in reality, Captain Zamboni!!
With his sidekick "Biscuit"*, he protects innocent 9 year olds from the evils of Pro Hocky scouts and crazy overbearing parents!!
With his "Quick biscuit...to the Zamboni Machine!!...eh?", he's off again to chase some scout who has snuck thru the rink security...
Press release of Captain Zamboni's attack vehicle - Eat your heart out Batman!!
*Merkin to America Jr tanslation "biscuit" = Hockey Puck

Meanwhile, at the Power Rangers' Den:
"Another monster! Quick! Let's get out there and - um, maybe we should give Captain Zamboni a head start."
So what does this attack vehicle turn into?
