Well, didn't know what to expect from this race...I have run it before and always done well, but I have always been better trained than this...
My goal was to go out and run 8 minute miles at first, and then see what I could do...
Finish time is: 1:39:15
Pace: 7:35
Division Place: 13 out of 33
Gender Place: 89 out of 267
Overall Place: 99 out of 483
Felt pretty good the whole way, although I felt like I was dying the last 2 miles. Here are my splits...and my mental thoughts...
mile 1: 7:27 Whoa...slow down,
mile 2: 7:23 Still too fast! Damn.
mile 3: Missed to damn mile marker!
mile 4: 14:49 (avg of 7:25) Wow, I'm running pretty well.
mile 5: 7:46 That's a little better, don't want to burn out.
mile 6: 7:26 I have to go pee
mile 7: 7:28 I have to GO PEE.
mile 8: 7:26 I HAVE TO GO PEE!
mile 9: 8:06 That pee break was easily worth 30 seconds.
mile 10: 7:30 Right back on track.
mile 11: 7:22 Nice job, let's kick it in.
mile 12: 7:53 I can't kick, I'm freaking tired.
mile 13.1: 8:40 Let's just get this over with.
All in all a strong effort. 2 mins faster that my 1/2 in July, and makes me feel more confident that I can run a marathon in 5 weeks. It was my slowest time ever on this course, but I am in the worst shape too, so that wasn't surprising. I'm actually quite a bit faster than I thought I would be.

well......who am I, if I can't critique?!!!
I'm thinking at mile 5, you may have second guessed yourself more than anything else. Slowing down only because you didn't think you're in that good of shape. Next time don't slow down, if you went out too fast you'll will pay the price anyway......I think you should have kept 7:30 pace.
Did you take something on that pee break??? A little gu, gatorade, gel at 9 and 12 and 13 could have been prettier.
summary
Number one Jack Daniels rule: Do not second guess!!!!!
Sue suggestion: I like a gu right before mile nine (right before a water stop).
and to wrap-up: nice even splits--I don't think you went out too fast at all. You ran well!

For a guy that's spent the last few months sleeping in and skipping runs, that's a pretty impressive time.

Yeah, I didn't have any gu or gel or anything, but they did have powerade at the water stops. I really think it wouldn't have made a lot of difference, well maybe just a little. For the amount of training I've actually done, like ph noted, I was pretty pleased.
