Just received an email from a former student who was "at risk" while a student of mine. I taught him in '95 (6th grade Math/SS). Good kid...a little lost...big heart. I thought I would share.

Short, but rewarding email:

hey how are you i am doing fine just thought i would drop a line or two. im in the army and doing well. i have no kids, not married, and i learned how to control my temper. just wanted to let you now that graduated high school and i really have to thank you and the rest of the teachers at kms for who i am today. well hope to here from you soon.

THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING YOU DID FOR ME IN THE SIXTH GRADE

This is why you teach. For all those teachers out there who often times have their doubts.

Xmas came early for me tonight. Thank you Steven!

Very outstanding. Suprising, no, since I think you are one of the most giving people I've met, but outstanding that this young man conveyed such a nice message to you. Merry Christmas, Marcie!!
