First off, my buddy Dave wins the BEST COSTUME of the YEAR...tha's right, he was the masterbating BEAR ala the Conan O Brien show...

Mr. Green

Ok, now onto the Simon y Garfunkel show!

This, being billed as the 'Old Friends' and final tour delivered and then some. Although I wasn't actually 'there' during the peak times of S&G, their music still played an important part in my life. In fact, it was my 10th grade music teacher who played "I Am A Rock" to us and asked us to 'define' the song...something I'll always remember.

The concert opened up with a 10 minute video montage starting when the two began. Cleverly incorporating historic events to better 'date' the era. All of sudden. The video ended. The lights come on, and there they were. A quick soundcheck song (that I didn't know) and onto the classics. Hazy Shade of Winter...I Am a Rock...America...Wow. Simply amazing to actually hear and see these songs live. Total goosebumps. Here is the complete set list:

---------------------------

Old Friends/Bookends
A Hazy Shade of Winter
I Am a Rock
America
At the Zoo
Baby Driver
Kathy's Song
Hey, Schoolgirl

break

Scarborough Fair
Homeward Bound
The Sound of Silence
Mrs. Robinson
Slip Slidin' Away -surprised to hear a Paul Simon song!
El Condor Pasa (If I Could)
Keep the Customer Satisfied
The Only Living Boy in New York
American Tune
Cecilia
My Little Town
Bridge Over Troubled Water

Encore Number One
The Boxer
Song for the Asking

Encore Number Two
The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)

------------

As a nice surprise, they brought out the Everly brothers during their break!
Here are the songs they did:

Wake Up Little Susie
Dream
Let it Be Me
Bye Bye Love (with Simon & Garfunkel)

Also, before breaking into Mrs. Robinson they showed a cool 5 minute clip of the movie The Graduate...was a big crowd hit.

They did a great job conversing with the crowd to turn the United Center into a very intimate place. They even joked around a bit about their 'troubled' relationship... Mr. Green All in all, it was one of the most memorable shows I've ever been to and I've been singing S&G songs in my head ever since!

Is this the same Hot Dave who was supposed to arrive Chez Partay with my RR t-shirt and CD and was a decided no-show?
