What was the sign or turning point where you knew or realized you
were a little more than just a "mere" peon employee?

What was that one thing or more that changed your status.

For me it was two.

Told by my boss I was going to be doing more travel than him.
The day my T & E card was given to me.

For those scoring at home T & E means (Travel & Expense).

Same here, the other position was offering 12K more. My employer matched it, plus added a 3rd weeks vacation to the deal Smile

That's a good thing? Shocked You poor thing (unless you like road warrior status).

For me it was the opposite - I was tired of so much traveling and said so. I was able to utilize other staff to go on the road in my stead and stay home more, running things from HQ.

I was laboring away as a tool designer/CAD draftsman when I caught wind that the biggest and most talentless brown-noser in the dept. was being promoted to a manager and that I was going to be reporting to him. I walked into my current boss's office and told him that I either wanted transferred out of the dept. or I would turn in my notice because there was no way I was going to work for him. My boss went out on a limb and I got promoted to my current job, still in the same division but no longer in tooling. He had to get the HR dept. to make an exception for me because I didn't have the 4 yr degree that is normally req'd for this position and they agreed to it. A 14% increase and a ton more responsibility came with it and I've been pretty damn happy with the results so far.

Welll my boss is the Administration Manager in our building and also the Project Director of new system related software.

He's also a married man with two kids in their teen years and spent the last 5 to 6 yrs on the road, working late, and pretty much solving all the dept problems with only one other person (my mentor ) prior to my getting assigned to his area 3 yrs ago.

So he's pretty much burned out on travel, my mentor left a year ago so its now me, him. He thought this would be a good tool for me and said pretty much since I'm single the dealings of being away from family is not an issue.

Plus he know I like to trave, so its a win-win for me. Smile

The 12 % rais earlier this year was good, but it looks like there may be another raise in store if this trip to DC bears any fruit in the nexr two weeks.

When people started calling me all the time. Parents, athletes, fellow coaches, coaches from other schools...

When I think back over the past 3 years, my school would have had a tough time of running without me! I'm am also looking forward to this coming year, no AD responsibilities, and only coaching 2 sports. This is gonna be so slack.(except for the fact that I'll probably be raising 3 children by myself during the week! Ack!)
