I just hired Action Maids.

I just can't keep these 10-hour days up and teach the kids and run and take care of the finances and keep the house the way I need it to be.

So I finally gave in. They'll come in for 2.5 to 3 hours every Friday and:

Vacuum all the rugs
Sweep & mop all the floors
Dust everything
Empty the trash cans
Clean the bathrooms

It is going to be a huge relief, but I feel like I've copped out. I'm a failure as a wife because I can't do it all... at least that's what it feels like.

I don't think it's sick. When we lived in Ohio, we had a maid who cam once to twice a month. She didn't do laundry, but she did the bathrooms, bedrooms, dusted, mopped, etc.

We needed it. We were too busy to get it done ourselves. If I were you I wouldn't feel bad. It sounds like you have a lot on your plate!

Laurie Ellen. That mindset is sooooooo 1990's. Razz

Besides, there are always sacrifices - most career women sacrifice something, whether it be the family or the free time or the clean house. You found a way around that so that you CAN have it all.

If you can afford it, I say GO FOR IT! My parents had a maid that came once a week when I was a kid.

My mom didn't work outside the home OR homeschool. I guess she was just lazy. Wink

just kidding mom

I'm with the others on all this...I am very proud of you for letting this go.

Housework is SOOOOO overrated.

As far as failure as a wife, I promise you that none of this cleaning stuff counts in his "Is she succeeding as a wife" evaluation form. In fact, lets ask him after the first few visits. Say, Mr. Laurie Ellen, Mrs. Laurie Ellen isn't running herself ragged... finding she's in a little bit better mood? has a little more energy? I bet your approval rating goes UP my friend.

I hear you, Laur. I've been wrestling with this for a while (and I don't even HAVE kids) and I think it's great that you're doing this to give yourself a bit of a break. You're basically a single parent a lot of the time, with him traveling so much, so you've got no break from the kid-rearing stuff either.....so this is going to be a good thing for you to do so that maybe you'll have a little time to take care of YOU for a change. And bonus points if you can get the nails back! Smile
