Hey Bill,

Sorry to cool your jingoistic jets, my man, but we'll have no need to invade the exotic locales like Thailand, Colombia, Panama (again!), and Oaxaca that you've no doubt read about when flipping through that big stack of High Times magazines next to your bedstand--most of the pot consumed here is grown right in the ol' US of A!!!!

Most of it comes not from neato hippie enclaves like Northern California but very depressed rural areas, especially in Appalachia. Yes, gives new meaning to the term Kentucky Bluegrass alright.

In fact, any number of estimates put marijuana as the number one, two, or three cash crop grown in the US. More value than wheat, corn, soybeans, not to mention wax turnips even.

Disclaimer: Bill probably doesn't have a stack of High Times magazines next to his bedstand.

Near and dear, indeed, Steve.

Yeah, they own commercial rights to names and various strains, so thus they would have a leg up, but that was their plan all along. Still, it would take what is now a vast unregulated, untaxed source of revenue and move it to at least more legitimate businesses than many organized crime groups who now run marijuana and other drug distribution organizations.

I think the corporate machine actually agrees with you on this one. In the past few years you've started to see a huge shift in the media's presentation of pot use. Everything from regular news reports showing chronic pain suffers getting that much needed relief from lighting up to network sit coms like "That 70's Show". It takes time to shift the public's perception on these things but you'll probably see pot legalized in your lifetime - hang in there man.

I still have a hard time uttering "legitimate businesses" and "RJ Reynolds" in the same sentence.
