Anyone ever had shingles or known any runners with shingles? I was diagnosed with it yesterday and I have a marathon coming up in 2 1/2 weeks, so I was wondering what I can expect.

My daughter got/had them a few years ago when she and a friend were playing in the ocean and what they thought was a shark came close to them (it was a dolphin). The stress of that incident caused the breakout.
She got the rash that turned into the blisters. It was pretty painful from what I recall. She's still got the scars on her back from it.

What I want to know is will I be able to keep training and run my marathon on 10/26? My thinking is that this thing has got to get a lot worse than it currently is for me to bag the MCM.
PH, any idea how long your daughter's case lasted?

I don't remember how long hers lasted. A month or two. It was only a small patch on her back, about the size of a Coke can bottom. I know it hurt to have stuff rub on it.
Is your's where a shirt would rub on it? I think that would be pretty painful.

Mine goes from my front all around to my lower back. So far I have gotten all of my runs in and my shirt has not rubbed. Hope that continues.
