Got up at 9:30 for this race after spending most of the night sick in the bathroom. 39 degrees and breezy on a relatively flat course through lovely Glens Falls, NY. After last week's 'blistering' PR and the previous night's events I wanted to just hold on through the race, and try to make it a tempo run if I could. We picked up our race packets and some of the biggest fitting T-shirts I've ever seen. RLAG and I met up with andydp prerace and chatted it up. We then went outside for an 11am start.
The gun goes off and we start, crossing the finish line 9 seconds after the gun goes off (which I of course subtracted ). I stayed with my friends until my legs just kind of ... went off on their own. I pulled ahead. Within five minutes I knew I was going to be sick at some point during the race; it was just a matter of when. Passed the first mile marker at a decent pace. Right before the second one I made a roadside Picasso. The only thing going through my head was OK, make this good because we're not stopping anymore - time is ticking away. Yes, apparently I am that insane.
From that point on it was just letting my legs do their thing. My head was focused on making sure I was out of traffic's way, as this wasn't a closed course and we were running WITH traffic. As we traveled down Route 9 I had a couple of close calls with passing vehicles. It was also difficult running on the shoulder of the road, around parked cars, because the sides of the roads were covered with salt and dirt. I'm not a fan of running on a movable surface. But my legs just kept going, doing their thing.
Next thing I knew I took the final turn and saw the finish line. I picked it up a bit, finished, threw up, and then waited for my friends to roll in. First andydp, then RLAG. We waited around for a bit to get the official scores, which never came that day (they were really off). It was great to meet another RRer - too bad I was too sick for us to go out to lunch.
Final time: 50:34, 10:07 pace, 296/325 beating 9% of the field. Splits: 9:55, 10:30, 10:02, 10:09, 09:57. Not too bad considering only 66 seconds off of last week, where 30 of them were spent decorating the countryside. Nice to see I'm settling into a faster pace automatically without having to kill myself in the process.

Nice job and nice pix!
You did great considering you were sick.
I don't know how you did it!
Also, it's great that you got to meet another RR member.
Cool!

Great job, especially since you weren't feeling well! You're such a trooper! By the way, that wasn't "morning sickness" was it? Hee Hee

I guess you need to learn to and run at the same time so you don't lose anymore time on the course!
Great Job!!!

Yea whatever she said. I thought the race went well. Even with that "strange" mileage marker at mile 2.?
My impression: this is the 4th time for me on this course. It was probably the coldest one. Temps were in the 30's but the 35MPH gusts of cold, west wind were VERY cooling. (Last year I did the course in shorts and t shirt temps were about 50)
Once we got past about mile 2.5 or so the course flattened out and it was a smooth run in. I've been slowly building up from basically 2 years of little racing due to DUMB injuries/pains. I'm building up to do the Quebec City Marathon August 29 2004 in Quebec City Canada.
Next planned race is the Prospect Moutain Run in Lake George, NY. 5.6 miles UPHILL !! Anyone care to join me and RLAG ?

You get a free pass to Six Flags Great Escape for finishing! Anyone? Anyone? 1,601 ft. of elevation in 5.6 miles. Anyone? No?
