My dad was in the Army during the Korean conflict. According to him, ( I never fully understood this whole story) he was kept stateside in some kind of mathematical/engineering function - he contributed his brain power to the service. I saw photos of him in his fatigues and my mom used to tell stories about him returning from boot camp and the dog going nuts and trying to attack him. I'm still confused about the whole thing.

according to my family records, there has been an Oaster involved in every major US Military conflict since the war of 1812. Our family served with great distinction in the Civil War and won numerous medals. I even understand there is a statue to one of our forefathers at the Gettysburg Battlefield. As our family expanded so did our service. I don't have exact specifics but I know it is a proud tradition.
Mine and Greg's kids are 11th generation and the 10 prior have all had service, I am sure they will continue this proud tradition.

Let's see.... My family
My grandma's side are Clarks..... George Rogers Clark and William Clark
Not sure about all the people in the mid years, there has been a lot of reasearch done, but
My uncle was a marine and My cousin was in the Navy. My other Uncle was in the Navy.
My brother was in ROTC, but then became a Priest...... ok.
I have nothing but respect for military people. I know I could never do it.

My father was in the Army and wanted to stay in, but was medically discharged after only a couple of months because of his knees (I believe). Somehow he still gets full VA benefits (thank God, because he's needed it over the years). He has always talked about how much he wanted to stay.
My brother was Air Force for more than 10 years and only left because he was recently divorced (at the time) and had a son and would have been shipped overseas and his son was younger than 5.
I believe my father's father (I guess that would make him my grandfather) served in the military in England.
That's all that I know about, but there might have been more.
I seriously considered enlisting in the Air Force after I graduated college.

I was in Navy as were several Uncles - father served in Air Guard.
It really pisses me off to run into people who feel their kids are too good to serve.

My grandpa was a career Army man. Fought in WWII. I found out recently that he was in Patton's 3rd Army and was selected once to attend chruch with General Patton himself.
2 Uncles were in Vietnam. They both made it back.

My 2GGrandfather was in the Civil War. I have his original enlistment papers from 1863 and deguarotypes (photos) from his service there...some Conferderate money he collected...he was in the Union BTW.
My uncles served in Viet Nam (one for the Army, the other for the Marines)
My brother was a Marine.
I'd support any of my children if they decided to join the military. It'd be hard to do and I'm sure I'd worry. If that was their choice though, I'd have to support it.

I'm sure some of their perfect children will not go off and do anything...and live off of their Mommies and Daddies for years! Just my guess.
