Runners in the San Francisco Marathon or who run the 1st half marathon route will cross the Golden Gate Bridge twice on their run. The run starts at 5:20am but for those of us coming from the East Coast that means the run actually starts at 8:20am. Not too bad.
Race date is July 31.

I ran across the Sydney Harbor Bridge on my first marathon and the Golden Gate Bridge fascinates me as a running venue, assuming it doesn't start swaying due to an earthquake as I cross it.
But I like the 5:20am start too. That means I'll be finished by 7:20 at the latest and have plenty of time to watch the marathoners finish and return to my hotel room to shower and change before my noon checkout time. And I've never seen San Francisco so I can sight see as well as work in a nice race. If I like the half I might even try the full here next year. The summer temps for SF tend to be cooler than other parts of the country for a marathon.

I'm pretty sure the only time traffic is stopped on the Golden Gate is for the marathon. A few years back I did a 12k which ran along the walkways on the sides of the traffic lanes and that was super cool. It was close enough to the sides to get good views of the water. I suspect when running down the center of the interstate that goes over the Golden Gate for the marathon, a person probably doesn't even feel too much like being on a bridge since it would be 50' to the edge.
I'm kind of a bridge junkie. I've ran a few races on big ones. Kinda cool...except for lightening
