Posted: 09/08/05 - 15:16 Post subject: SO NOT in the job description!!
Objective: Find Retainers for 4th grade student
Materials: Trash dumpster, 6 black bags full of trash, shredded BBQ chicken, chocolate milk, mush, MISSING RETAINERS!!!
Precedure:
1) Teacher dig out trashbags within reach.
2) Using gloves, cut open each bag...sort through bit by bit...unsuccessfully done.
3) Climb into dumpster.
4) Cut open more bags, sort through more mush, and search once more. Arms covered in mush, BBQ, chocolate milk.
RESULT: NO RETAINERS FOUND! CALL STUDENT'S MOTHER!
Ugh. I have now seen and done it all in teaching. My white capris are covered in BBQ sauce. My sandals are splattered in chocolate milk. I smell like the trash dumpster. I need a shower.
This is so not in the job description!
Do I get an A for effort???
My students thought I was cool.

I'd have notified the parents which dumpster I thought the retainers might be in and leave it at that.

I would have put the student out there, and said good lucky buddy.
It's not your job. You went way above and beyond. Say, doesn't that call for a cold one?

Seriously...a few of my coworkers would not have done this!
I just saw $ and $ out the door on this one.
Cute little British girl...nearly in tears. Her mother is here searching now.

Wowza...I hadn't heard, the British have evacuated to Phoenix?!
...must be hurricane Monica that is sending them packing.

That was actually the policy at my elementary school. Many a friend of mine spent the afternoon digging in the cafeteria trash so their parents wouldn't have to be called....

I'd say you did WAY more than you needed to do. I hope they appreciate your efforts!
(My sister and parents once spent three hours digging through a Pizza Hut dumpster for hers. Thankfully I was not around on that trip! And I am glad I never needed braces because of stuff like this.)

OMG, I would have never done that! Yes, you get an A for your effort though. Did the mom ever find them?
On an even sicker note, I had an employee try to unplug the men's room toilet with her hand after trying unsuccessfully with the plunger. She got it too. Talk about tough sh!t!
