Greg and Joe each have a collection of autographed baseballs. Greg said that if Joe would give him 2 of his balls they would have an equal number; but, if Greg would give Joe 2 of his balls, Joe would have 2 times as many balls as Greg. How many balls does each rif-raffer have?

joe = 14 - 2 = 12
greg = 10 + 2 = 12 equal

joe = 14 + 2 = 16 twice as much
greg = 10 -2 = 8
