Wow! Friendly place here. I just joined the boards this morning and when i got back from a meeting i found that i had two IMs in my inbox. Thanks! I feel so welcome *fake sniffle*

Tonight is going to be my first day running in over a year (and then only that one day in two years). I'm starting to train for a 10k in October, which i know is not very far away, but i'm not intending to race it, just cover the distance as best i can. I'll be running it with my brother's wife, so i'm not pushing for any sort of a PR with that one.

In case anyone is wondering who i am (and what i used to run), i was a former collegiate runner for Northwestern College of Iowa...not a very good one, but the school was small enough that i got to run. When i graduated i stopped running. I was a little burned out at the time dealing with injuries and everything, but i waited too long before starting back up again....and now i'm rambling a bit too much.

My goal for tonight: 2 miles.

Hey neighbor! Welcome to the forums. Good luck on Day One. Here's a link on Minnesota road races in case you hadn't found it yet. Very Happy

Thanks for the race site. I just bookmarked that! I didn't even know which race i was doing in October, only that my brother told me it was on the 18th. Good to know.

Welcome Pug, would you happen to own some pugs?? one step at a time, and one mile at a time, and one day of training at a time, will get you speedily to your 10k and beyond. Very Happy

Phew...

I'll post more detailed thoughts in the reflection forum, but suffice it to say that i'm overweight and out of shape. That said, the first mile went better than expected but i had to stop several times on the return mile. I didn't try to push it harder than i was capable of doing at this time.

No, i don't own any pugs. I took the name "Pug" from Raymond Feist's Riftwar fantasy series, and the fact that i think pugs are ugly and cute at the same time (just like me).

I certainly will. I'm going to take it easy and slowly build up my distances. No rush. : )
