Posted: 10/30/03 - 15:01 Post subject: Running/Training problem this weekend
I will be out of town this entire weekend, attending the Georgia/Florida "cocktail" party in Jacksonville. (Go Gators! To HELL with Georgia!) As a result, I most likely won't be in any type of condition to do my normal two runs this weekend - one of which is my normal long run in preparation for the half-marathon on Thanksgiving morning. I'm suppose to do 11 miles this Sunday. If I miss this long run on Sunday, can I do it on Monday and compress my next week of running? I'm up to 25 mpw and I'd like to continue that pattern. I did 6.2 on Tuesday night and will do 6+ miles tonight. But it looks like no more running after this evening's run. 12 miles this week looks awful weak. I'm already starting to feel guilty.

To he11 with your question here! Go Gators? GO GATORS! Ahh man sonnylax. You've gone to the "Dark Side!"
No really. I think you can do it on Monday and be fine with it. I have had to do that before. I get that guilty feeling going too if I miss a run or don't make the milege I wanted to during the week. That's when I usually have an awesome follow up week.
After a long run on Monday, see what you can physically do next week. Don't push it, but see what your limits are. Watch those knees.
I bet you will do fine.
The only thing you need to kick yourself for is going for The Gator's.
I think this is better!

For this Georgia Tech fan, rooting for the Gators one weekend of the year is much better then ever rooting for Georgia. I think I would pull for the Taliban football squad before the Bulldogs.
P.S. Good luck to the Noles in South Bend!

If it wasn't within a week's time of raceday, I'd usually say no problem with moving the long run to a Monday. But being inside a week, I just wonder..is there really no way whatsoever of getting it in on Fri/Sat/Sun? The run, stretching, showering would be what..2-hrs tops? No way to squeeze that in? Just a personal thing of mine, but I love running out of town. I'll head on an out and back from a hotel or relatives house. Find a trail map online head of time. I dunno..I'd try to get it done before Monday.

I normally try to do this as well. I may try to steer clear of the adult beverages on Friday evening... allowing me to run in Jacksonville on Saturday morning... But I don't see that happening. I know that my liver will be too polluted on Saturday afternoon/evening to allow me to function through Sunday evening late.
Any other folks ever attempt to run near an adult beverage drinking binge? Somewhat serious question.

I see your point and interest in The Gators now.
Running after an adult drinking binge... I couldn't do it.

oh come on.....speak up people!!!!!!
twice I've run 5ks the morning after a binge.....not good experience....but I have to say that I really felt that it was due to lack of sleep more than anything.
I've done some pretty long runs on a Sunday after a Saturday night of drinking....some okay, some not okay. One tip is to finish your drinking activities with a few glasses of water before you go to sleep that night. In the morning, I convince myself that I'm going to "sweat" the toxins out of my body.

For the record... I did enjoy some malted adult beverages on Friday evening at the JAX Landing. I ran 4.66 miles very slowly on Saturday morning. Helped burn off a mild hangover. Eat & drank all day on Saturday guilt free plus the Pup Dawgs lost, so it was a great day!

Good Job! You're definitely hooked if you manage to work your run in.
