Posted: 09/20/04 - 09:07 Post subject: Run the River Half Marathon...
My hometown race...first time they ever had a half marathon...
short version.
6th overall
1:48:23
1st in division
I wasn't prepared for this race at all, and it showed. I just wanted to run a half marathon this year, for some reason if I didn't run one at all made me feel like a failure. So I just tried to run @ 8 mins a mile, a see how long I could make that last. (I knew it wouldn't last the whole way)
mile 1 7:57
mile 2 7:47
mile 3 8:11
mile 4 7:54
mile 5 8:06
mile 6 8:10
mile 7 8:15
mile 8 8:10
miles 9 and 10 17:14
mile 11 8:37
mile 12 8:44
mile 13.1 9:12
As you can see by the splits...I was not in shape, as I slowly dropped off the pace, but I was able to finish, and felt ok.
Yes, I won my age group, but since I was the only person in my age group, that helped. Only 9 people ran the half marathon.
Mrs Coach ran another 5K this day, and came within 35 seconds of her time last weekend, and she had to stop and pee along the way, so she actually did really well again!
So, I did what I set out to do. Finish a half marathon.

9 people in the race? And I thought 100 folks was a small race.
1:48 ain't nothing to sneeze at!

Excellent time I'd kill for. I can't wait to see what you'll do next year on some decent training. Good job, coach!

9 people?
You were holding your pace fairly well through 8 miles.
Nice job, Coach!

9 people?! I'd've found a way to come in tenth.
Congrats, Coach!

Not if you're a male in Northern Ohio in the 40-45 age bracket like Rob...

If Rob was a better attention whore, he probably would win more hardware!

Forget about the number of people, 1:48:23 on little training is very impressive.
