I ran the Royal Arts 5k at 6:20pm tonight. I was 18th overall, 2nd in my age group and finished with a time of 24:20. My average HR was 161 and my MHRwas 172.

This race started off with two loops around Thrasher Park before continuing down a nice residential street to a turn around point around the 1.5 mile mark. Coming back we turned down a street that went slightly downhill 1/4 mile. We then returned up that same 1/4 mile street to get back to the main street where we made a right turn and continued back to Thrasher Park. The course was gently rolling hills throughout.

I was very pleased with this race as it is consistent with my k5 time. I was worried somewhat after running the ADT Marathon 3 weeks ago that I was getting really slow. Not that I'm not still slow, at least can maintain a respectable (for me) 8 minute pace. Now to start working on getting that pace down to 7:30 on a consistent basis.

Edited to add: One other thing that I was extremely happy about in this race. NO ONE passed me after the 1.5 to 1.75 mile mark. There was a guy from the start to that point that stayed right with me and we were doing a cat and mouse game with each other to that point. When I went by him shortly after the 1.5 mile mark I was gone. No one even came near me before I crossed the finish line. I maintained the same pace throughout which for me is very good. Quite often I start out too fast and do a slow burn toward the end. But I really did well on judging my pace and not trying to push it too far even when this other runner was challenging me for the first half of the run.

why not down to 7- 7:15 pace? three weeks after a marathon???? If you got that kind of strength and fortitude you should be shooting for higher goals. Unfornuately that means hills and/or speedwork Mad

My ultimate goal is to get to a sub 7 minute pace for my 5k's and eventually even to do a sub 20 minute 5k, something I haven't done since I ran on Marine Corp relay teams Hawaii in the mid 70s. But I didn't want to sound overly ambitious. Smile

Nice GRR, congrats on the hardware.

Sorry I missed you in my home town. Upon further review, I probably should have attempted this race. My legs felt fine tonight after I did 20+ minutes outside. OH well.
