It was a dark and stormy night.... oh wait, that's what the weatherman called for but he screwed up. It was a hot and muggy evening in beautiful Latrobe, Pa. - perfect for sitting around and drinking beer but not quite perfect for a race.

A 3 hr drive along with Rolling Rock's excellent directions put in me in the parking lot of the Stupor 8 motel around 2:45 pm. Akern and her hubby arrived not long after and another meeting of RiffRaff personnel took place. Rolling Rock kindly picked us up in the Weinermobile and we went back to the Rock residence to meet her family, shoot the breeze and discuss what was on tap for after the race. Many thanks to Mr. Rock for supplying sufficient brewskis and being the grill master.

Didn't take much to warm up for this one - some stretching and a half mile or so of easy running and I had a good sweat going. Race start was on a nice wide road and there wasn't the usual traffic jam of bodies. The race course itself was pretty hilly, no real monsters but a couple of pretty good ones in mile 3 that took some of the steam out of my sails. The only downside to the whole course that I saw was a lot of turns, I don't think any one straightaway was more than a few hundred yards long.

Mile 1: 6:20.7 with some downhill helping to carry me along
Mile 2: 6:54.8 as I backed down off the 6:20 pace somewhat
Mile 3: 6:56.9 I worked harder in this mile than of them due to the hills
Mile 4: 7:05.2 Mad bogged down a bit here, probably aftereffects of 3
Mile 5: 6:41.4 started feeling decent again in the last mile and had a pretty good kick.

Overall time was 34:00 flat (6:48 pace) good enough for 4th in my AG out of 40 some runners. I'm not going to complain one bit. It was around 84 degs at race start and the course was hillier than I'm used to so I'm happy with my time.

The Rock family were wonderful hosts and fed my hungry ass both Friday night and Saturday morning. Achey and her dh are super nice people and it was great to meet them also plus we had a post race visit from Keltic and he joined in on the festivities afterwards. I'd do this race again in heartbeat with this crew - I had a really nice time.

PS Sue stole the racing limelight but I ain't gonna steal her thunder - she can post it herself.
