Posted: 06/28/03 - 09:08 Post subject: Rolling Rock 5 Mile Run now with a PIC
Yes, she's so poular that she has a race named after her!
Parking was a nightmare, but I found a spot and made my way to registration. I met up with RR and we chatted, then we got real hot and sweaty as was planned yesterday.
It's a big race, and there was no warning that we were starting, so bang! and we look at each other and start out. of course, it's such a crowd that it's slow going for a while.
mile 1-felt great 8:51
mile 2-still feeling fine 8:36 but the hills are coming up, RR warns me
mile 3-8:54 the third hill slowed me down some
mile 4-8:26 on the flat, realizing I'm almost there, so I ignore the pain.
mile 5-8:12 it's a sprint to the finish and the race ends on the track!
my time according to my watch was 43:01 and I placed around 360/621. official time not posted yet, but it may be a second or 2 different thanks to that "surprise" start.
Prizes and awards given, even one for the "33rd" finisher in honor of the mysterious 33 on bottles of Rolling Rock. Shower facilities were available so I took advantage of them then met RR and Mr. Rock at the post-race party. We talked about all of you, since you weren't there! Once that Rolling Rock lady loosens up, she's quite the party gal. Ask her about the "spanking contest"!
ME= bib #401
once again, there is no pic of RR to be found

this was my third year running this race and it seems to get harder? every year--wonder why??
cool cloudy breezy day - really perfect running weather and then the gun goes off and the sun comes out --blinding and baking us!
i was with Keltic until the first hill and then i watched his back for the rest of the race, as usual. lots of "cheerleaders" along the way and kids with hoses doing their thing.
i chugged up the last hill, really chugged, almost walked. Two things bothered me this race - side cramp at mile 2 and a blister, neither of which has ever happened to me before. ever.
finish was inside the new high school stadium which was nice. My clock time was 43.20 which was better than last year by a mere 29 seconds!
lots of chat time with Keltic and the after race party is all blurry in my mind at this point. i think my husband was there - some kind of spanking contest comes to mind - again, all kinda fuzzy. where did this beer bottle tatoo come from? oh well, it's very cool.
maybe keltic can fill me in......
