Posted: 01/30/03 - 15:07 Post subject: Robin and I are getting an Au Pair
To watch JJ and Hannah. We are not happy with the baby sitter watching them now and really need more flexibility. We checked out Au Pairs and found that really they are only a little bit more than full time day care for two kids. (JJ and Hannah) Abby is still watched by the nurses.
We should likely have the Au Pair in about 2 months.
She is here for a year, works 45 hours a week, makes 139.05 salary per week. She gets two weeks vacation a year and has to take 6 college credits while here. We really looked into this and seems great.
Anyone else ever have an Au Pair?

It is run by the U.S. State dept. It is more a cultural exchange program as they are here to experience U.S. culture and learn better English

I'll be very interested in knowing how this turns out. My wife and I have discussed in home child care solutions. If it was financially viable for us, I think we'd do it. Keep us posted!

I didn't have an Au Pair, but I had a live-in housekeeper for two years. It was wonderful. I had an older woman though, actually closer to my age now.

I meant, I was much younger then, and she was my age now, and Au Pairs are typically college age. Oy!

I know you weren't laughing at me, but in retrospect, the way I worded that was pretty funny. I will never be old. Aged maybe, but never old!

We could pick what country. I said anywhere in Europe but France because I would end up in arguments over their politics.
Knowing my luck I will get hot young German chick. Guys on my squad are lining up to "help" her get oriented to the states.
We had a choice of not only country but either male or female. We felt much better about female with all of the women nurses that we have and the young age of the kids.
