It's too long to print here but I don't think you need a password to go to http://nytimes.com/ and look at the article entitled "After Terror, a Secret Rewriting of Military Law."
A very interesting, if not disturbing, look at how the administration decided to best handle things. I thought it would give insight into the mindset of the people running this country, especially for those of you who are still undecided.

It is an interseting little story, Go.
But the one problem I have on this is what I've had with the war against terrorism itself (I know, the Administration linked it to specific nations - connections proven or not.): It is a war against individual and groups, not nations. Hence, you can't declare war, you can't arrange for humane treatment of your own captured military or have international supervision (e.g., the Red Cross), and you can't get international organizations to impose penalties and sanctions against them, like you could against a country. This is, as President Bush and others before him (I'm pretty sure) have rightly, called it, a new level of warfare. I don't know what sort of rules could be put into play to fight individuals and groups.

Right. One thing is that Al-Qaeda functions a lot more like a drug cartel than some state actor.

I'm sure there are quite a few "facts" either side can dig up dirt on the other one about. Have you seen the campaign ads recently? Spin, spin, spin baby......

...Or one could just read it and actually pick up a thing or two, instead of rejecting it all b/c it doesn't fit one's predetermined mindset.
