Why do you need a trophy to remind yourself of how much ass you kick?

I say no, unless you have a place to display it and people will actually see it. If it's just you, why keep more stuff than you have to?

you've proved yourself eric; that race was a climbed mountain. i think if it bothers you that there is no "remembrance" then go ahead..it's too freekin' bad there was no one there, at that moment, to take a decent photo of you that you could have had mounted on a plaque or something. i think it would be nice to have something that both you and your family could remember it by too.
i think "stuff" just symbolizes an accomplishment true, but the real feeling lies inside and no one or nothing is going to adequately express how that felt, not now, not ever...that's whats yours for keeps.
...if it makes you happy, it can't be that bad.......

I agree to some extent. Winning a 50 miler though is not just an ordinary age group award. I probably wouldn't have one made but I certainly wouldn't fault someone who did.

Why don't you buy yourself a new running jacket or something. Trophies just seem useless to me. And, as I said before, just sit around and collect dust. Trust me on this one - we have so many stinkin' trophies in this house (obviously not from running) that it drives me crazy! We have volleyball trophies, TKD trophies (thankfully not one of those 6-foot things they give the teenagers!), bowling trophies, etc., etc. I'm looking for a place to get rid of these things. Maybe you'd want one of mine (or my DH's) and just replace the guy on top with a running guy????

Here you go Eric. This may be right up your alley. While it's not a trophie, it's something to keep the memory for you. I know that there are things in life you want to have as a keepsake for something you worked hard for and a jacket is not going to get it (sorry Diva...but the man ran 50 miles and that's not going to cut it after an accomplishment like that. I'm saying this in a nice way too).

I see what people are saying about the accomplishment being enough, but I really believe that this was more than that. The months of hard training, the mental part that really worked on you, the race itself...I REMEMBER IT OH SO WELL AND READ EVERY ONE OF YOUR TRAINING WOES!!! And believe me for all of you who didn't follow Eric's story, he really was inspiring and I cried a half a dozen times over what he was going through. For some reason, training like that and following someone's progress like that does that to me.
I'm really surprised at some of you. Don't tell me you wouldn't want to walk away with some sort of "prize" after most races? Look at all the positive strokes we look for here. I'm saying, "WE" and include myself in that comment. Why else do we post as we do??? We look for reaffirmation for what we did. You know we do.
I know that I was not walking away from the AZ RnR without my medal. REALLY!
Get something Eric!
You're grandchildren will hold on to it. That's why I cherish the plaques my GF earned in 1935 on his undefeated, untied, unscored upon DePauw University football team. Something in that speaks to me about a very great man...who was strong, determined and worked hard. Darn it if it has to be dusted every so often!! And yes...my GF was a very humble man.

I would say no to the trophy, but how about framing a picture of you finishing the race and your race bib?

But not having anything for the winner of a 50 mile race??!!
Did you get a t-shirt? Maybe you could frame that up or something.

I'd buy a special piece of jewelry or furniture--something to commemorate the event.

Sweet monkey on a cracker!
If I ever finished a 50 mile run, I'd bypass the trophy and buy myself a BMW.
