we just tried to boost my car and as soon as we took off the cables it died again...

Good diagnosis! Let's see in the past month I've replaced or repaired the following on my fleet of 9 yr old plus vehicles....
On the 84.... front and rear brakes, rotors, spring kits, calipers, etc. an alternator and voltage regulator, front locking hubs
On the 97... water pump, power steering line that was custom made in the shop at work since they were back ordered at the dealer....

SWOOOOOOON! A girl that'll recharge her car battery in the dining room is fricken great! My x came home to me rebuilding a 4 barrel carb on the kitchen table and thru a damn fit!
