Release Me (and let me love again) is an old song, and many have covered it. Eddie Arnold (may have been the original artist--1967), Englebert Humperdink, Dolly Parton, the list goes on.
You might remember it best from Willie Nelson. His version was out in 1980.

I thought it was a lot older than that. Cappy probably listened to it in his teenage days.
