You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your relatives.
let's just say that the relatives I saw at the funeral home today were, ummm, interesting.
I'm glad they don't have the same last name.

Weddings and funerals bring out the best and worst in every family. You are right there about the relatives.

I've asked before, but I still don't get how my immediate family is so different than the extended family.
I know of 1 cousin on my dad's side who is college educated. Interestingly enough, he is a second cousin to me, first in his family to go to college, and also gay.
Another cousin that showed up today: he was about 250# wearing a fleece pullover and sweatpants, sneakers, no socks, and regaled us with stories of his surgeries, including the fact that he bleeds from his butt..... regularly. His mother was just getting over the flu, and her nose was dripping.....

i don't see much of my extended family anymore. but we're all pretty similar i think.. it's a small bunch right now.
the g/f's extended family isn't too crazy either. and they survived thanksgiving together - so it should be good.
that said - my mom sure does like to tell stories... one day i'm going to have to tell her to let someone else run the conversations...

All my relatives are pretty cool. Except uncle Alan. He's married or shacked up with Bonnie who has the looks of a bulldog n the personality of a brown paper bag. DH's family is completely effed up n we never see them. Well not on purpose anyway.
I got really great friends. Except for these bunch of Riff Raffers that I can't seem to ditch.
Bleeding from the butt. Regularly.

I have a relative who loves to regale all the other relatives with all the medical gossip that has happened to anyone she knows.
You can bet Mr Aire being at the war was GREAT fodder for her. Did she write him a letter in the 7+ months? Only 1. But did she tell everyone stories and how worried she was ? Only about a bazillion times.
Sorry, K. Sometimes funerals have the benefit of bringing people together again and bringing them closer. This funeral had the benefit of reminding you why you aren't closer.

maybe we have the same family....
not really, but mine has the F'd up bunch as well.
I have a cousin in prison for rape, several on welfare, and then there are the ultra-wealthy....
takes all kinds in my clan to make it work.
I'm the normal one
