Well, well, well....
Looks like I got my leave request back for the next six months (October through March). The rules state if you are in the top third in seniority, have the hours in your leave balance, and haven't done anything criminal, you get all the time off you ask for.
Asked for a total of eleven days. Four for right after the Chicago Marathon, and four around Christmas (23, 27, 28, 29).
Lessee... as of this Monday, I'll have been here 25 years. Why, I believe I have seniority... why, yes, I do.
I have over 100 hours of leave. And earning 8 more each pay period, I certain have enough to use.
In my last performance interview, I was told I was "one of the most consistent and best employees we've had in the past few years."
KINDLY EXPLAIN, THEN, WHY YOU DENIED DECEMBER 27TH. YOU KNEW WE WERE GOING TO COLORADO TO SPEND CHRISTMAS WITH OUR SON. CALL HIM, AND CALL MY WIFE, AND GIVE YOUR RATIONALE.
Dumbasses.

Just one in a long line of stuff that's happened over the years. I will not take up space here to talk about it all (and never have) - suffice to say, it would take up a hella lot of space.
What ticks me is they can't explain - truthfully - why they take the actions they do. So I'm finally going to start calling them on it.

I've got over 13 months of sick leave (one nice thing is that this gets added to time served - a-hem - when it comes to figuring out your pension). Last year, I used one day of it for the first time since 1993. They threw a fit.
Shooting themselves in the foot is a good line - they don't have that somethin'-somethin' to shoot themselves elsewhere.

I'd be finding myself sick every couple weeks were I you. You obviously have a great work ethic though, and people like you don't take advantage of the system. Which is good when you work for people who give a poop. These guys obviously don't though, so it wouldn't be bad for you to use the time you have. I certainly wouldn't think less of you.
And you know, it IS all about ME.
