I've had several Riff Raffers recommend things. For me, it was books.

These are the books recommended thus far and all have been excellent/fun reads:

Janet Evanovich (author of a mystery series based in Jersey near where I lived--hilarious)

Laurel K. Hamilton (author of a Vampire series-very good, and that's usually not my genre)

Bryce Courtenay (author of Power of One )

Gayden Metcalfe (author of Being Dead is no Excuse)

Shadowmancer, a kid's book.

I know more have been recommended, and have been excellent, but since I have contracted CRS disease from Rob, this is all for now.

Anything other RRers have recommended that you've really enjoyed?

I really enjoy the James Patterson series... it can be a bit gruesome though for mystery/suspense... Patricia Cornwell is very interesting too, forensic science mysteries....

Actually, Aire Jr has really enjoyed it, and by proxy, I have enjoyed it, too.

It's hard to find good, substantive reading material for someone who is advanced in reading but not advanced in age.

I also enjoyed Repairman.

I learned about that series here, too.

Have you tried Cornelia Funke (she is the author of Inkheart and The Thief Lord)? Noley mentioned her books. If your kid likes fantasy, you might try Eragon by Christopher Paolini. It's pretty simple fantasy with nothing too gruesome or dark from what I remember. Paolini wrote the book when he was in his teens.

Repairman Jack was written by F. Paul Wilson.

He is a doctor in real life. Hellaintelligent.

He's got a website--read them in order though.

I recommend all James Patterson. Read the mysteries in order, or you miss out on 3 (Along Came a Spider, Kiss the Girls, Roses are Red, THEN Violets are Blue) Confused

His fluffy stuff is good too.

Highly Recommend:

Life of Pi - Yann Martel?

Things I want my Daughters to Know - Alexandra Stoddard

Jennifer Government - Max Barry

Moneyball - Michael Lewis (only if you like baseball)

I am so having this problem with Will. He is 8 & in 2nd grade, but has the reading scores of a 5th grader. He's very bright, but he loves to read Bionicle & Spongebob. I'm hoping summer trips to the library will expand his repertoire.
