I am wondering what a sensible quantity of crunches is for my morning warmups would be?
I have gone as low as 150, and as high as 1000....

um......DUDE...i cant even eat that many Crunch bars. if it's only warm ups though i'd keep it on the lower side. the purpose of a warm up is to get the blood flowing there, not to fatigue the muscle before training it. if your trying to train the muscle go for the fatigue factor dude.

Try a swiss ball. That will kick up your ab workouts. If you are doing that many, it is time to switch up your routine.
Try:
leg raises
bicycle (with shoulders off the floor)

Try something else to 'warm up'. You're wasting a lot of time doing 1000 crunches.

What are you warming up for Ranger? Prior to lifting, running, other type workout? My warmup prior to lifting is a set of 12 dips, a set of 12 pullups and then some very light benchpress. I do my morning run prior to lifting also.

Forgot I posted this here
I have to maintain tight abbs for MMA fighting.
It is quite common for my instructors to kick me in the stomach when I am doing pushups or have me close my eyes and then nail me in the gut with a punch...when I am not expecting it.
I'll look into the swiss ball and I have already added leg lifts.

Wow... sounds like a lot of fun. And you PAY these instructors to kick you when you're not looking?
