just died. I find this much more of a loss than someone else who passed away this week.

Oh, I am not debating. I think he gave the world a tremendous gift with his music. Music has more value to me, personally, than many other things.

OH man. that is sad, i always liked him as a person being able to overcome adversity like he did, not be sorry for himself and be a role modle like he was. you nver heard about him being arrested for something stupid.

the world just became a little less valuble

my students absolutely love singing his song "Fifty Nifty United States" and that is the way most of my students have been able to memorize all 50 states. What a shame that he's gone so soon.

and let's not forget his latest hit: America's Game, the one and only Powerball!

If there's room, move over. I'm with you. I am touched more by the loss of Ray Charles than I am of Ronald Reagan. And...there is nothing to debate. Agreed. How can you debate personal feelings?

So sad someone who made the world a little brighter has to fade away so soon.

Amazing how we all agree on his genius and ability to overcome some very nasty obstacles.

Ray Charles
» Together Again

Together again
My tears have stopped fallin
The long lonely nights
Are now at an end
The key to my heart
You hold in your hand
And nothing else matters
We're together again
Together again
The grey skies are gone
You're back in my arms
Now where you belong
The love that we knew
Is living again
And nothing else matters, Baby
We're together again
Well, nothing else matters, Baby
We're together again

I knew he was considered one of the "creators" (as it were) of soul music. And I also know he had a best-selling album of country music. But I learned a couple years ago when he started his recording career, it was gospel in nature, and he sang with a falseetto (!). Nothing against that form of music, but I'm glad he switched both style and voice. It's a truly sad day for music, probably the biggest loss since George Harrison.

My favorite appearance of his in a movie was the music equipment store owner in the Blues Brothers. Whipping out the gun and firing a warning shot at the kid who was going to swipe something was truly a funny point in that movie.

Thanks for all that and more, Ray.
