For me, I would consider the clock and myself as almost the same. |
That would be pretty hysterical if it wasn't so true for me as well....
Clock.

Myself or more specifically my body!
It's like my heart/head/spirit (whatever) wants to soar with the eagles, but my feet are doing the turkey trot!
I can only hope with time I can go faster.
But with time I am also getting older and may possibly get slower, so I think I will be happy just to maintain my current pace

I think really fast folk race against others. I just noticed yesterday as I was hanging out with Cjay and sue after the race how they knew all the other elite runners around. I'd imagine that when you're that fast, it's more thrilling to beat one of your competitors than hit a PR...
witness?

Clock. Particularly in a team race you want to (a) keep in front of as many of the major rival teams as possible and (b) pick up as many places as you can. As a non-elite, it's not as though the race is a big strategic thing from the start. You go in focusing on what initial splits you want to hit, sometimes adjusted for the weather conditions. And then you gut it out.
