So, some friends and I are thinking of strapping the bikes on the little Saturn and driving up to Iowa this summer to attempt this 7 day ride across Iowa this July. Or at least a few days of it (pending everyone's vacation schedule)
Has anyone done this or heard anything about it? Just looking for feedback, it sounds VERY fun...

One of the oldest best run tours out there. They have featured it on Bicycle Journal on OLN. DO IT! Wish I could join you.

I'm a native Iowan who's hoping to get in my first-ever full week of RAGBRAI this summer. I've done 2-3 days a handful of times, but never the whole thing. In a word, it's a blast. It doesn't often rain but the heat and humidity can be pretty intense out there in the middle of the corn and soybeans. The small towns that host it though really make the ride. It's like a big street party in small town Iowa for seven days straight. Also really helps to get officially registered so you can use all the storage, transportation for gear, showers, etc, but not a must.

Cheryl, I skate the Geargia version of this. several of the bikers there just rave about RAGBRAI. given the chance, be like NIKE, Just Do It.
these events are, fun, active, relaxed (very relaxed). a coupe thousand people out on the road and camping out on Universty grounds.
when in RAGBRAI this year? i'll be out on BRAG <georgia's> from June12 registration day, till the 19th.

I think its going to happen but its looking more and more like it will be only 2-3 days of it with lack of vacation time, a looonnngggg drive each way and summer classes, etc. I have a native Iowan going with me who already is familiar with about half dozen towns we'll be going through. And we'll all be training in HOTT (with 2 t's) and humid Texas, so hopefully the heat won't be too shocking, but the hills might be...The more I hear about this even the more it sounds exactly like a week long version of the Houston to Austin MS 150 I do every year, with the exception that that ride is only 2 days.
Gocubbies, when you've done only part in the past, is it more fun to do it at the end or the beginning? We'll almost definitely be incorporating a weekend into this.
Oh, and Hyper I read somewhere that it is always the last full week of July, so I believe this year (without looking at a calendar) that it is 7/25-7/31. ish
