1. When does daylight savings time begin? and,
2. Is the abbreviation for the time of day changed to EDT (eastern daylight savings time) as opposed to EST (eastern standard time) when it does take place?
and no smart cracks if you live anywhere but eastern

EDT begins Sunday Morning April 6th.
Starts first Sunday in April and ends the last Sunday morning in October.

Yes it becomes EDT during daylight savings time, but my question is, for the places that don't do EDT, how do they abbreviate their time? Is it always ST? (for those that don't actually switch time ones, I mean.)

Yup, those renegade states just stick with EST (of whatever time zone they happen to be in).
FYI - EDT = GMT - 4 hrs. and EST = GMT - 5 hrs.

You guys and your day light saving time. You can't decide what time you want it to be. You have to change your clocks twice each year.
Here, we NEVER change our clocks unless the power goes out. One reason I want to stay in Indiana or move to Arizona or Hawaii.

Biggest pain in my butt since moving down here from Indiana. All the clocks and watches to change - TWICE A YEAR!

I've always lived where we change to daylight savings so I don't find it to be a problem, but I sure appreciate the extra daylight during PDT. Right now it is getting light before 5:30 am and just getting dark at 6:30 pm. I'd much rather have the extra daylight in the evenings. Helps keep the morning runs during the cooler part of the day as well.
