Posted: 09/28/03 - 19:02 Post subject: Quad Cities Marathon (the half-marathon race, anyway)
To be honest, I was going to be happy with an average ten minute pace today (2:11:00 total), and I would have been thrilled to get a 9:45 average (2:07:43.50). Deb believed I could do better - I need to listen to my coach more often.
Conditions at the start were ideal (for me, anyway) - partly cloudy, 47*. The half-marathon at QC is pretty flat, save for the bridges crossing the Rock and Mississippi Rivers - four in all. I started out fast like I ususally do, and should not do, getting about 9:15. Little did I know. Here's the splits (remember, the best I was hoping was a 9:45 average):
1 - 9:14.60
2 - 8:48.37
3 - 8:49.37
4 - 8:49.00
5 - 8:39.76
6 - 8:50.45
7 - 8:36.46
8 - 8:49.10
9 - 8:08.39
10 - 8:41.00
11 - 8:35.49
12 - 8:26.29
13.1 - 9:05.75
Total - 1:53.34.53
This has not yet fully settled in - my mind was elsewhere in the race (please see the soon to be or already posted "Retrieve In Peace" thread in RR). By the week's end, I'll enjoy it fully.
Thank you Cindy, for coming to this - it was better for both of us that you could. And Deb, I am so damn proud of what you did today, and overcoming all the stuff you did. Said it before, and mean it more than ever - we are a good team!
