Do you like to push your envelope and test your limits? Are you uncomfortable outside of your comfort zone?

Sometimes I do things that aren't necessarily going to specifically get me faster but I'll do them anyway.

Last Friday I did lunges, which I don't normally do. The next day, I didn't know that my glutes could get so sore. Embarassed

Monday I dropped the weight down from what I usually do with squats and went down maybe 1" farther than normal. My ham strings are still sore today. I was supposed to do a tempo run, but all I could manage was a slow steady pace.

I've really upped my mileage commuting too. I went from almost no commuting to riding to work 75% of the time now.

Somedays I think I'm really going to grow like mad from all this intense training (in a lot of ways I have) and somedays I think I'm just a big dummy and should eat TV dinners and watch Simpsons re-runs like the rest of America.

I used to do all that "pushing the envelope" stuff years ago, but now it just gets me injured. So, I just "nudge" the envelope.

And, tee hee on those lunges. Wink

I'm all for going the extra mile or trying something new to mix up my workouts a little, but a little nudging works fine for me too. And not beating the crap out of myself for the occasional foray into junk food or getting distracted and missing a workout or two.

Life's too short not to enjoy the whole trip........

I think I push the envelope. I try to challenge myself and I like to challenge myself. I do try to make smart decisions and listen to my body. Like taking a day off before a long run or ride. Not increading weights if I have a race on the weekend. I always make sure I do one to two days of yoga or resistance stretching. If I'm training for a specific event I make sure I train properly so that I can complete it without injury. I love the sense of accomplishment after finishing something that I trained for.

I enjoy pushing the envelope. Pushing is what makes it fun. The growth is a direct product of the stresses.

I race.. that's my envelope pushing. No other place in life can I physically push my body as I can when it's a mile to go and I'm bringing it home. Few things feel as good as blowing steam down the home stretch as every body fiber rebels. Twisted Evil

You sound like me. Everything is either black or white, there is no gray anywhere in my world. Sometimes that lack of balance is the root cause of the problem. It's great to push the envelope but I think you have to know where the glue line is and not cross it. Remember that period of burnout you went through last year?? A little break and you felt better, but it sounds like there's still some lack of middle ground maybe. Just a thought....I struggle with this in EVERY area of my life and it can be really frustrating.

I like to push the envelope just to see how I am doing. Have to do it once in a while to keep it interesting.

I'm finding it difficult to figure out what my "envelope" is right now. Once every couple of weeks I'll really try to "push" during one of my runs and I'll think that yeah that was good. But when I'm fully recovered and not even sore the following day I start to question if I really pushed. Maybe I just ran harder than usual but didn't really tap into the full potential. It drives me nuts sometimes.

I push it from time to time also. Maybe that is why I am thinking about doing the 3 races in 72 hours in Tampa. Everyone likes to see what they can handle. I personally have no desire to try and run 50 or 100 miles in one race but let me try and do 3 races in that short time I will sure thinki about it.
I am also trying to work rowing back into the little bit of cross-training that I do.
