Hey folks, new to the forum but have been doing the running thing for quite some time.

My current predicament is a strained lower (and I mean lower!) abdominal region that's been bugging me for about 2 months now. I've given it a lot of rest and only now have slowly, slowly been tacking on some miles. I can't say I'm 100% still. (I strained myself when running some trail half-marathons at (admittedly) too quick a pace.)

I've been cross-training (biking, swimming) since the injury and am in great shape overall. I'm 42 years old and injuries take a lllloooonnnnngggg time to heal ... but this is ridiculous.

Anybody out there "pulled" their lower abdomen? I couldn't find a reference to this type of injury when I searched.

Hey. Welcome to the forum. Very Happy

I haven't experienced anything of the sort, but have you been to a doctor for it? Just curious if you had been. If so, what was recommended...rest? It was all due to your pacing when you run?

Wow! I hope someone can help you out. Again Welcome!

How far down is lower? Are you taking any meds for it?

Thanks for replies.

No meds and no docs. It's a simple strain located on the same level as my hips but affecting my abdomen. Sounds strange, I know.

I got it after pushing really hard on recent trail halfs. I suspect that I actually got it from going fast downhill as I am an accomplished hill climber and biker.

I think I'll just rest, rest, rest. As far as the remainder of RICE, Icing won't do down there (!!), Compression can't be done there, and Elevation can't work either!!!

Thanks, all.

Welcome Slowpoke!
Sorry about your injury. Are you sure it's your abdomen? Could it possibly be a hernia?

I worry that you haven't gotten it checked out. Sorry...I tend to do that.

I tend not to Wink . I know, I know.

I ran twice this week. Little bitty -- and slow! -- test runs with a few days in between. I seem to have no lingering effects so I'll run just a little bit more this weekend.

I've been biking and swimming like mad during my downtime but I really, really miss running. I hope it goes well.

Thanks for the advice. I'll let you all know how it goes.
