I'm sure every house has some form of protective device.
There are lots of possibilities. I say E (wits) and my dad has a BB gun he uses to shoot the crows and raccoons from our backyard. And the kitchen and toolbox have a whole lot of weapons to choose from: knives and cleavers of different shapes and sizes, big metal pots and pans, plates, hammers, wrenches, screwdrivers, penknives among other things. And oh don't forget chemical weapons: bleach, insecticides and herbicides (just spray in the eyes), thinner, oven cleaner, paint.

All excellent, but the problem with most people is they don't think about things in advance, they don't plan to "defend themselves at all costs". Many think adrenaline alone will get them through a situation, it won't. Planning--usable weapons, escape routes, etc, needs to be done in advance. Planning won't guarantee survival, but it will better your odds.

Let me say this, I didn't read what this post was about,

but obviously at my house we are lacking in "protection" Wink

Edited to add: my main defense against crime is living in South Dakota.

I do have a baseball bat, and I've been told my sense of humor is "supah sharp", so that's what I have to depend on.

My parents, who live in rural Kansas, have more problems with crime than I do living in suburban Atlanta.

Winchester Model 120 12 gage pump - resting unloaded. The slugs are about 3' from the bed. I can load that gun in the dark without a problem.

Burglar Alarm, kiddie stuff everywhere. Who knew 50 strewn Barbies could make an effective weapon, although the burglar would have to be barefoot...

I'm sure the sound of racking a shell in the chamber would get someones attention..... and yes it might leave a mark.... about 3/4" going in and 3" coming out.....

I, like coach, thought of a different kind of protection.

Then I read about red cars, police batons, etc. Sexy!

Chez Partay we rely on our home alarm and two killer 6lb poodles that would lick a burgler to death. I wanted to dig a moat with crocodiles, but The Paramedic said that might violate city codes & ordinanances. And I've asked for a tazer and crossbow for a long time, but surprisingly no one has yet purchased these items for me. dunno
