Posted: 05/14/05 - 15:55 Post subject: Prospect Mountain Run Saturday May 14
Participants: Andydp and MickeyVW.
Weather: It was supposed to shower this AM but nothing ever came from the sky. In fact this PM it was sunny and 68. Race time it was around 50, cloudy and quite a nice breeze at about mile 5.
Results: Andy and Mickey finished at about 1:17 or so. Mickey placed third in her age group. I was not last in my age group.
The race: Prospect Moutain is 5.67 miles uphill with a 1,600 foot rise in elevation. It is not for the faint hearted. You will NOT do a PR on this race. My race pace was 13:00/mi. My usual mile time is around 10:30.
Mile 1 mild uphill. Actually ran a 10:30 pace. Mile 2 we crossed at 24:00. Walked most of the way from mile two to mile 5. There was a half mile at about 3 something where I was actually able to jog. Did jog the last 1/10 mile to the top.
Mile 4 to the finish is a brutal uphill. Heartbreak hill is NOTHING compared to this last mile.
Apres race: Baked Ziti lunch with all the trimmings. All finishers got a free pass to a local amusement park - gave it away no one here will use it. Also got a magnetic photo frame. Won in the raffle: A Certificate for a road ID tag, and a woman's small fleece pullover. Got a free haircut in trade for the pullover.
Actual results will be posted as they become available.

That's crazy. It's impressive even attempting it. I'm not sure I'd sign up for an uphill race. Good job!

My addition:
#229 out of #245, 3rd in my Age group (out of 4) 1:15:07
13:15 pace
Only thing to add: between miles 2 and 3 there was a little spot where it went flat and maybe a bit downhill. That was a lifesaver. All-in-all a very tough race. One to mark down and say I've done... I got a gift certificate for $25 for sneakers and a really nice coffee mug for the age group award!
Andy's Official #'s
#226 17/18 (AG) 1:14:18 13:07 pace

Congrats on trading a pullover for a haircut. That's one strange bargain.
