Yesterday my daughter and I went car shopping and got her (actually she paid for it herself, I only went along to give advice on the test drive) a nice little car to drive for the next few years.
Got the car at about noon yesterday and then went and picked up a CD player for it and some other stuff to get it clean. It was kind of dirty, but nothing a little elbow grease won't take out.
Today I was going to install the CD player and I was missing an adapter so we went up to Circuit City to get it and then we were going to stop at Home Depot to get a few extra keys made since we only got one from the seller.
Anyway, pull into the Circuit City parking lot and we get out and then my daughter realizes that she's locked her only set of keys in the car. CRAP! I told her we'd go ahead and get what we needed from Circuit City and then work on the car problem from there.
When we were coming back out of the store, we say the local police giving some lady a well deserved hard time for parking in the fire lane. I waited there for a minute and then asked them if they were in the business of helping people get their keys out of their car. Surprisingly, they said they'd help.
So we explained the situation...blah...got the car yesterday...no spare keys...blah...tag isn't registered in our name...no insurance card yet...
So while one officer is standing there patiently explaining what we need to do to get everything on the up and up, the other spends a total of MAYBE 30 seconds working on getting the lock open with a slim-jim.
Open comes the door and we both thanked them, got the keys and headed to Home Depot to get a couple of spares made.
So, props to the local police for helping my daughter and I out of an embarrassing situation and telling us what we needed to do to get our paperwork in order in case we got stopped again.
