What are some of the things you refuse to buy?
I've had my eye on one of those Tanita body fat scales but I refuse to buy one for our house because our teenage daughter would obsess over her % and it would just give me one more thing to log every day.

I have one and it's not very accurate. it can give me wildly different readings in a matter of a few minutes. pre-shower/post shower are always way different. I don't even use the bodyfat feature anymore.

Thanks for the info on the scale. I was going to buy one this weekend.
You saved me some money. Thank you.

i have one and love it
it is very accurate
another scale we had was showing me 5 pounds lighter
i like it because of the dual mode
athlete and non athlete
what a difference it makes when modes are switched (as far as fat percentage)

So you leave it on the one that makes you feel thinner?

measures the amount of water i believe in the body using an electrical current....fat stores more water thus more water=more fat

Not very well and not very accurate. Electrical impedence as a whole doesn't do a very accurate job of measuring body density, from which you can determine your body fat percentage.

It should be lower in the morning then according to your theory!
less water = less fat
It works by electrical impedence, like flarunner said. The electrical signal can get through water and muscle but not fat so it measures the amount it cannot get through.
You can see why this would leave room for a large error margin.
