plastic surgery isn't healthy and running is?

But there are cases when plastic surgery serves more than just a cosmetic purpose (nasal breathing problems, reconstructive surgery, breast reduction, and more I'm sure), and times when people run through injuries and hurt themselves worse.

I'm not saying that one should go out and get plastic surgery whenever they are unhappy with a part of themselves, and I certainly think that doing it the old fashioned way is preferable, but I also don't think it's so black and white that surgery = bad, and fitness = good. I firmly believe that self-esteem is a major component of a person's overall health.

I'm just sayin'

Most of the old timers here know that I had reduction surgery back in 2003 after a series of questionable biopsies. There was much discussion about scarring and the aftereffects of the surgery before I had it, and I made it quite clear both before and after enduring the recovery that I would NEVER have done it if it hadn't been medically necessary, and the doctor had to bully me into doing it as it was, despite the fact that my DDs were less than perky and getting in the way of my running (and seeing my feet Confused ).

As far as self esteem goes, it's nice to look smaller and be able to wear button up shirts again, it's also nice to know I'm going to live longer than I would have if some of those hyperplasic lumps had been allowed to develop into breast cancer. But the scars I still carry are, for me, a huge cross to bear, whether or not people who have seen them have repeatedly told me they aren't that bad anymore. They are for me, and I honestly wouldn't do this over again if it was just a matter of cosmetics. But that's just me and my
